Wood Rot
Doctors
All Wood
Rot Doctor franchisees are qualified trades people with
carpentry and/or joinery skills and are experienced and equipped
to work with wood in both exterior and interior situations.
They have
completed training programs encompassing a much broader range
of knowledge than ordinary carpenters would be expected to
have done so that they can fulfill their role as Wood Rot
Doctors.
To qualify
for this, their initial training, which must be completed
before any work can be undertaken, covers subjects including

Wood
Rot Doctors work in partnership with bodies such as AEPMA
and TPAA to ensure that the correct cause of the problem is
identified quickly and accurately. When needed, specialist
consultants in wood decay and insect attack can be engaged
to prepare detailed, formal reports.
Wood
Rot Doctors have a close relationship with organisations and
groups that prepare pre-purchase inspections for properties.
They can
carry out work of any scale and will not only repair decay
or insect effected wood, but will undertake maintenance on
an agreed frequency basis to ensure all wood components and
elements are kept in a sound and well protected condition.
They can
also carry out new work if required and will do so at a very
high standard because of their expert training and experience.

Consultation
Appointments
for inspection can be made by contacting our call centre on
(03) 9791 8687.
You
will be asked to provide basic information such as name, address
and contact details and a brief description on the area of
wood decay that is causing you concern. We will also ask where
you heard about the Wood Rot Doctor service.
A referral
will then be immediately forwarded to your local Wood Rot
Doctor. You will be contacted within 48 hours to arrange
an inspection.
Diagnosis
Our Wood
Rot Doctor will determine the cause and the extent of
the wood decay. This will be due to high moisture levels in
the timber, or , the use of unsuitable wood species in the
original construction. Our Wood Rot Doctors are fully
trained to accurately identify this and evaluate the extent
of the problem.
There
may also be evidence of insect attack to the wood, specifically
termites. Should this be the case, our Wood Rot Doctors
will recommend a reputable pest control practitioner. Generally
they will be a AEPMA (Australian Enviromental Pest Managers
Association) member, to treat the affected area before any
remedial work is carried out.
Treatment
It is
the first priority of the Wood Rot Doctor to save the
section of wood affected by decay. If it is still structurally
sound, it will be possible to treat the wood section in-situ
to halt the progression of decay. The decayed area itself
will need to be removed and that section reinstated by methods
that will restore the original appearance of the section of
wood.
All preservative
treatments used are fully approved by the APVMA and are non
hazardous once applied. There is no arsenic content in any
of the products. Our Wood Rot Doctors are fully trained
in their use and will comply with all safety instructions
when in use.
Surgery
Decay
may be too far advanced to save the section of wood affected.
In this case, our Wood Rot Doctors, who are all qualified
tradesmen, will remove the decayed section and replace it
with a suitable, high durability species or appropriately
treated timber. This will done with consideration to the function
of the section (i.e. whether it is structural or decorative).
Our Wood
Rot Doctors will complete the rectification process to
what ever is your need. Re-painting, matching existing colours
is a service provided and treatment of surrounding timbers,
that may not be showing evidence of decay, as a preventative
option is recommended.
We will
leave your home or property looking as good as when it was
first built.
