Once again there have been tragic results from collapses of elevated timber decks due, most commonly, to wood decay.
The death of an infant in Central Queensland caused by, from press reports, decay in timber decking and the serious injuries to a group of teenagers in Sydney from a timber deck collapse, are incidents that should not happen and are preventable.
We at Wood Rot Doctor are conscious of appearing to use these tragedies that occur only too often, for self promotion. This is not the case. Rather we feel an obligation to do what we can to alert property owners, everywhere, of the need to utilise the services available to make sure the timber in their home is durable and unaffected by decay.
Professional inspections can be arranged through Archicentre. Local Councils should be contacted if a problem is suspected. Local Building Contractors will determine if there are any safety concerns.
Decay of timber in structures is a natural phenomenon if moisture levels of the wood exceed 20%. Timber is still the most effective building material, but it must be maintained. Don’t take unnecessary risks, make sure any decayed timber on your property is repaired.
